Temporary Hair Loss Following Childbirth

In some cases there may be a temporary thinning of the hair several months following the birth of a child. In pregnancy, the body will produce certain hormones that will encourage the body to keep the existing hair that would be shed in the normal growing and shedding cycle phase of the hair.

After the birth of the child, the hormones will slowly return to the pre-pregnancy state and may cause some temporary shedding or thinning of the hair. This is a sign that the body is returning to the normal growing cycle of the hair.
